Common Issues

ACOA: Also known as Adult Children of Alcoholics, folks with these experiences may struggle with unending worry, attention difficulties, addiction, perfectionism, people pleasing, preoccupation with others emotions, on guard, always feeling like someone is mad at you, trouble setting boundaries, unable to settle, chronic guilt and shame, and varying degrees of disconnection from the body.

ADHD: We do this through the non-judgmental exploration of attention differences and difficulties, attention to what works best with your unique brain, and working together to create structure and support for the way your mind works best.

Anxiety: This includes things like constant worry,  threat responses, “fight or flight” responses, or feeling frozen/stuck in place.

Boundary difficulties: This can look like very porous/open boundaries, overly rigid boundaries, or inconsistent boundaries that are difficult to hold.

Burnout: Most commonly described as overwhelm, feeling unable to “turn off,” rage, or feeling like you’re suffocating under the weight of your responsibilities. For some people, this can also look and feel like workplace-induced depression.

Somatic disconnect: Or, not feeling connected to the body and feeling unable to “control” or be in relationship with the physical self.

Trauma: This is often diagnosed as PTSD and can show up in a variety of ways, such as upsetting memories or dreams of a traumatic event/time, hyper awareness of your surroundings, feeling constantly on edge or frazzled, periods of significantly low mood or energy, perfectionism, fear of connection, and more.

How can things change?

Whether it’s addiction difficulties, trauma, attention difficulties, or something else, we begin with the body

This means creating a space where you can tune in to what’s happening for you in the here & now—deepening the connection between brain and body, and giving yourself permission to attend to the internal.

From there, we’ll explore your “symptoms” through a non-judgmental, non-pathologizing lens. We’ll discover what triggers your threat responses, and develop a deeper understanding of what stands in the way of creating more authentic connections—to yourself, your people, and the community around you.

Through our work together, we’ll support you in realizing the goals you’ve had for so long that have until now felt out of reach.

What if...You're not ill, You're not disordered, You're not unstable, You don't have a chemical imbalance, You're not genetically destined for mental illness...You're just reacting to something that is distressing you.

Your journey to recovery, self understanding, and fostering of loving connections starts now

Our therapy clients are adults who are, on the outside, high-achieving and driven, but on the inside, struggling to keep up with the demands of everyday life.

Many have been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, or ADHD (or strongly suspect that they have it). Many grew up in homes with unreliable or substance-using caregivers. They had no choice but to become independent & self-reliant. Additionally, many of our clients have experienced trauma, major life difficulties, and deeply impactful life experiences.

You may regularly struggle with overwhelm, burnout, & may overwork. You might feel like you need to be constantly “on” or responsive to those around you. You are incredibly passionate & driven, and also exhausted and need new tools to cope.

There's a way out of this mess, and it requires each of us to begin with our own body. You and your body are important parts of the solution
